Liszt 200th Birthday Concert

To celebrate Frank Liszt's bicentenary year, a lecture-recital of a selection of works from Liszt’s legendary piano cycle. 'The Years of Pilgrimage' is being performed by pianist and scholar, Andrew Snedden at Pianohass on Saturday 22nd October, 2011.

These works form one of the most dramatically varied piano cycles of the nineteenth century. The works are linked to dramatic expressions of the human experience including landscape, art, literature and spirituality.

ANDREW SNEDDEN

M.Phil. (York), M.A., Grad.Dip.Ed., D.S.C.M., L.Mus.A.

Andrew Snedden began learning piano in Wollongong with Nan Price, graduating from The Sydney Conservatorium of Music with both Performers’ and Teachers’ diplomas. He later studied classical piano with associates of the legendary pianist Claudio Arrau, and completed postgraduate studies at the University of York, England. He taught at several English universities, including Durham and York.

Since arriving in Perth, Snedden has lectured at The WA Academy of Performing Arts, The University of Western Australia and Curtin University. He was Conference Convenor for The 4th Australian National Piano Pedagogy Conference and for the Inaugural Western Australian Piano Pedagogy Convention, is Editor of the Conference Proceedings.

Snedden has broadcast on radio and television (including for the BBC). His lecture-recitals and masterclasses on Romanticism in general, and Liszt in particular, have been widely appreciated in Europe and Australia. He is currently researching Romanticist performance practice at ANU.
